Forbes has a rather poorly written feature on their site today about Thatch Cay:

If you're looking to hide your money or avoid paying taxes to Uncle Sam, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands is probably not the best place to go. The reason, of course, is that it is an unincorporated territory of the United States, making it subject to the same laws in Manhattan, Miami or Madison, Wis.
Fortunately, there are other reasons to come to St. Thomas. With its subtropical climate, sandy beaches and numerous resort hotels, is a popular tourist destination. The capital, Charlotte Amalie, has one of the best natural deepwater ports in the region and welcomes more than 1 million visitors per year, mainly from cruise ships owned by Carnival (nyse: CCL - news - people ) and Royal Caribbean Cruises (nyse: RCL - news - people ).
In addition to tourists, the island also accommodates many Americans and Europeans who purchase second homes there for use during the mild winter months. However, there can be few more exceptional properties available than the private island of Thatch Cay.
